To the Ends of the Earth: Action – Catholic Men’s Devotionals, Week 2– Double-Minded or Doubly Joyful
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.
James 4:7–8
One important aspect of Christian brotherhood is learning to be meek. Men often think that “meek” equals “weak.” But being meek means understanding that, on our own, we will never be strong enough to resist temptation, overcome sin, and live a life of virtue. True meekness seeks to yield to the purposes of God and accept the spiritual strength we need from him to grow into the men we were created to be. In Christ we are able to overcome our human weakness by drawing from the wellspring of his power.
We need to get serious and sober about our humble state before God, because we cannot walk with our brothers in truth and stand strong against the trials of life unless we are pure in heart, sold-out in our passion to live like Christ, and temperate in our judgment on all matters pertaining to working out our salvation. Meek brothers are committed to walking with one another every step of the way on our journey to the kingdom.
