Prayers of want vs. prayers of thanks
Fear that God isn’t Looking Out for me.
As I recently wrote about my family and I losing part of our house due to a major fire might fit this heading. However the four of us are handling the many obstacles created from this disaster. Those whom I am concerned about covers a rather large group who find themselves at odds due to a mistaken theory that everyone owes them their living needs. We know that many people have received a short-fall from much of their own reckless control over finances.
One person has had a number of consequential theories and in spite of rosaries and burning candles as reminders of Christ’s presence, still holds onto bitterness over those who do not adhere to his/her ideas. Because some do not support this person’s mixed views of becoming a follower, they have become, in his/her, thinking, an enemy, creating hatred towards others.
Another individual sees someone who is close to them, either a relative or close friend, with the successful life they have with a lot of money, who does not hand them a large sum of monetary presents. With this adherence to sharing everything together can result in a Socialistic type of living and we should all share our goods with those who sit and ask without any effort on their own. Remember what St. Paul said about gaining goods without working: “In fact, when we were with you, we instructed you that if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.” (1 Thes 3: 10).
We may find there are many people who work, but never have enough money to satisfy their rich man’s wealth on a pauper’s wages. Living beyond their income and then complaining that those with a lot should consider their plight fits the theory that Paul was referring to. Helping those who regrettably are in dire need due to nothing of their own doing, but for the many who want more because it’s the current scenario that is sweeping across this nation is not only selfish but immoral as well. They are putting those with a lot who worked for their treasure should not be put on a guilt trip because of envy.
Christmas just passed and already you can find some who are not thankful for what others out of their giving attitude sent them since the thoughts of the receivers seems to say, “with your money you could have given me more.”
That is trying to earn God’s love, generosity, and mercy. Cannot happen and will place our insolence on the outside because we only trust what we say and do. That makes God a human entity alone without a divine essence.
It isn’t what we can do that will erase fear that God forgets us, but it is how we accept the free gifts he has given to each of us without cost. “Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.” (Mt 10: 8).
