Be prepared
Before I get started, be sure to read this, it is quite possibly the most important self reflective article I've ever written, and I hope it helps people; A topic I never want to write about again
There are some things that I'll never understand. Like Pro Russian Catholics (in spite of Russia discriminating against Catholics, here's an interview that George Weigel originally did for Credo, speaking of, Weigel: “Many in the West would prefer if Russia returned to the forests from which it once emerged”, although I'm not sure Weigel understands that Navalny was not exactly a good guy. He was just less worse than Putin)
And you know, I'd be a liar if I didn't say I felt misunderstood.
“Charlie, you listen to this Gothic music, yet you don't wear goth clothes”. I am neither an Ostrogoth nor a Visigoth. I'm an American of ethnically mixed background. “Which ethnicities”?
All of them. Okay, maybe not that. But, the music I listen to does not dictate what subculture (or even culture), I belong to. I also find the idea of “cultural appropriation” incredibly lame.
But who does understand me? Well, God. God understands me.
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable”.
(Isaiah 40:28).
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but by everything in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:4-7).
Of course God understands, because he's all knowing. I think we need to stop seeing God as a cosmic superhero, but that's a rant for another day.
God understands. And as Christians, even more, as God became man, to die for our sins. The same God in the Old Testament, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15).
And that's just it. I don't care if you understand me (though, I'd prefer that you did). God understands me. Even better than I understand myself.
