Words: Handle With Care
Candid Dating came about in February 2021 with 400 sign-ups in four hours. The goal is to help Catholics have meaningful connections. From 400 sign-ups, Taylor O’Brien would help her ministry develop cutting-edge software to connect thousands of singles. Matches were made. As the website points out, she “wanted to create a space where people could actually meet and connect meaningfully.
Somewhere in the mind of its founder, she was eager to go big on Catholic Speed Dating. As the calendar changed to 2025, she had her eye on a big Catholic gathering In Salt Lake City during the SEEK Conference.
On January 4th, Candid Dating set a record during the event hosted by FOCUS. More than 3100 Catholic young adults were paired up with potential spouses. Those in attendance were blown away at the approach to Catholic dating. It involved no screen, swipe, or even back-and-forth messaging. Taylor couldn’t help but praise God for making this moment possible.
Candid Dating is different than dating apps and even websites. First, the approach is to do away with the swipe, click interested or not, and back-and-forth messaging. Candid’s approach is to have more FaceTime and conversations. Second, they rewired the mentality about dating.
Often, when someone thinks of “date” they immediately think it is a marriage proposal. Candid Dating has changed that mentality. Our culture has forgotten what dating is and where it can lead.
For Catholic singles who are tired of the cliché way of modern dating, maybe it’s time to take part in the new way of Catholic dating. The time for an intentional relationship is now.
