To the Ends of the Earth: Action – Week 7, Day 4 – God Sticks by Those Who Carry on the Fight
The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup;
you hold my lot.
The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
yes, I have a goodly heritage.
I bless the LORD who gives me counsel;
in the night also my heart instructs me.
I keep the LORD always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Psalm 16:5–8
What an awesome privilege we have to belong to Jesus. We will never fully understand on this side of heaven what it means to be members of the Body of Christ, yet we know we have been given an inheritance in heaven for all eternity. We have the Holy Spirit, who counsels us and guides the Church into all truth. We have countless blessings of provision and strength as we live each day as disciples of the Lord. We experience joy and can rest secure, even when the circumstances of our lives bring suffering and sorrow. We are never abandoned, never forsaken, and forever called to stand in the presence of the Almighty. Truly God gives us his best.
We must respond to this precious promise of love by giving God our very best. This means making a deeper commitment to be men who are sold-out for our Catholic Faith. Does this mean we will be free from failure, doubt, or sorrow? Of course not. But it does mean that we will seek the wonderful hope and abundant blessings given to us in Christ. As we live out our faith, we can give God praise, thanksgiving, and dedicated service. God gives us his whole self. The least we can do is to give our entire lives back to him.
Questions for Reflection
Where have you seen God’s abundant blessings revealed in your life?
What specifically can you do to give yourself more fully to the One who died for you?
What have been some of your greatest joys in being a member of the Church?
Praying with Scripture
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. (2 Tm 2:15)
