To the Ends of the Earth: Action – Week 9, Day 4 – God's Power and Presence Lead Us to a State of Overflowing Gratitude

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the lands!

Serve the LORD with gladness!

Come into his presence with singing!

Know that the LORD is God!

It is he that made us, and we are his;

we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,

and his courts with praise!

Give thanks to him, bless his name!

For the LORD is good;

his mercy endures for ever,

and his faithfulness to all generations.

Psalm 100

Psalm 100 is a powerful prayer of thanksgiving that lays out a number of reasons why God deserves our praise. God is our Creator, who made us out of nothing. We belong to him not as slaves, but as precious children. We are the flock he leads with love and perfect care, providing for us abundantly. He brings us to our refuge, a holy city that is ours by our adoption as his children. We enter his courts, confident that we will be judged with mercy and forgiveness. He is a good God, merciful, loving, and faithful to the promises he has made, both now and forevermore.

God’s goodness should lead us into passionate, powerful, and perfect praise. Our adoration should reflect the wondrous love of God that is poured out into our lives. As Catholics, we share in the salvation achieved on the cross by Christ. We exist as a Church to live out the reality of this great gift by our works of charity. Our praise flows from the abundant blessings God has given us through his Son.

What reasons do you have for giving God your song of praise? Do you praise him, or do you find yourself holding back?

In what areas of your life do you need to work on being more thankful?

How are you sharing your gratitude and the reasons for it with others?

Praying with Scripture

For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. (2 Cor 4:15)
