To the Ends of the Earth: Legacy – Week 5, Day 5 – Integrity is a Satisfactory Sacrifice that Pleases God
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases,
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
The LORD is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul that seeks him.
It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.
Lamentations 3:22–26
It can be easy to think of eternity as endless time rather than perfect timelessness. While we may not admit it, we sometimes wonder if God’s patience ever wears thin, if his love is limited, or if his desire to care for us waxes and wanes. We use our frail lives as a frame of reference when considering the mind of the Almighty. In truth God’s concern and compassion are never exhausted. We experience them anew every morning. This is what hope is all about: taking hold of the beautiful evidence of God’s mercy in our lives and letting it drive us forward into eternity.
When we allow God to be our portion and our hope, we connect with his eternal, timeless, patient love. We can rest in contentment and silent surrender to whatever God has in store for our lives. No matter what each day holds, when we fix our eyes on the hope we have in Christ, everything in our lives becomes new. We become strong, determined, joyful stewards of the eternal work of God manifesting itself in the life of the Body of Christ.
Questions for Reflection
Do you ever fear that God’s mercy has a limit? What do you think causes this fear?
How can you become more mindful of the ways in which God’s mercies are made new each morning?
How can you carry these ever new gifts of mercy into your everyday world?
Praying with Scripture
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer man is wasting away, our inner man is being renewed every day. (2 Cor 4:16)
