Are We Gaining Some Ground?
One unplanned pregnancy saved us all! It is truly remarkable how when we relinquish all we have and are to our Heavenly Father what he makes of us, and what fruit we bear. What God can do with our lives if we only surrender our will to unite with his, is more remarkable and amazing than anything that we could do on our own, driven by our own desires. Don’t we see this time and time again? There are countless men and women throughout our salvation history that have achieved the truly amazing once they submitted themselves to God.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Abraham, our Father in the Faith, who was one of the first to set us on the path to salvation, and whose Covenant with God, set up salvation history for us, through him we get the twelve tribes of Israel.
Moses, he did not find himself worthy of God’s task, none of us ever are, are we, or capable of it on our own? Through Moses God gave us the fundamental rules and laws on how to live our lives.
Mary, a young teenage maiden girl, who had plans to live a simple chaste life with her husband Joseph in a small little town called Nazareth. She now reigns as Queen of Heaven and because of a simple yes, to do whatever the Lord wishes, and became the mother of the Living God and all Christian believers.
Peter, he fell so often, misunderstood Jesus and his teaching, doubted his Master, yet he kept trying. He kept going, and through all his mistakes and errors, and sin; he prevailed, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. He became the rock on which the one, true Holy and Apostolic Church was built and has proclaimed Truth for the last 2000 years, and continues to remain strong, heading into an unsure and perilous future.
One of my favorite saints, St. Junipero Serra, who during his mid-fifties and in frail health walked from Mexico City to San Francisco, California establishing missions, baptizing the California Native Americans and bringing the gospel to people who had never heard it before. St. Serra is the first Saint to be canonized on American soil, just recently. He may be controversial but for an unlikely man who baptized, confirmed and brought the gospel to thousands, we cannot deny, God working amazing feats through him.
There are so many more. There are so many examples of how to live lives of Grace and God’s glory.
It makes me wonder what he can do with me, if I just submit my entire will to his. What is holding us back? Is it fear, selfishness, pride and arrogance, or do we just not trust him enough? What I do know, if we are wasting our time with foolish pursuits and causes at odds with Christ and his Church, we are working against him. If we are getting caught up in our own self-serving desires and pursuits for self-righteousness and arrogance, ultimately we will not be successful. We will not bear the Heavenly fruit our Father wants us to bear in this world, and the next. It is time, to focus on the tasks of this world that will lead to the next We need to stop busying ourselves with all the pursuits of this World, because they will not last and may even jeopardize a life of paradise in the next.
