How We May Be Judged On The Last Day
God’s Love, Mercy, Forgiving, and Justness is Eternal
Eileen Renders
Old age is said to be a blessing. As one who is living well into old age yet still a contributing member of my community and church, I have been blessed to step into that part of a fruitful life that many were denied due to health issues, accidents, or violence. After the children are raised and have children of their own with busy careers, we face many changes, and options on how we plan to live out our last years on earth. For myself, I have always had a brain that does not easily shut down, and insomnia does visit me although my body is tired.
On the bright side, if we live and breathe for God and work for Him, we enjoy His blessings of wisdom and insight, and we can decide to share what we have learned throughout our life experiences. Jokingly, I have always said, “I want to die with my boots on.” Perhaps there is a lot of sincerity to that bit of humor. Becoming a writer requires a lot of determination, research, tenacity, and a positive way of viewing life itself.
Today, I want to share with you my feelings about the California fires and then the subsequent fires that occurred there, the millions who have been displaced, and the continuing fires and subsequent deaths attributed to these fires. The school shootings, now the freezing temperatures, the everyday airplane accidents, the ongoing wars, etc. I couldn’t help but think of Sodom and Gomorrah, and how God destroyed it because of sin. Abraham asked God if He would spare the people of Sodom if He could find fifty innocent people so that the righteous would not suffer with the guilty. God answered “Yes.”
However, Sodom and Gomorrah were indeed destroyed by God because of their sin, sexual sins mostly, including homosexuality. Some have compared the destruction of Pompeii to Sodom and Gomorrah, but there is nothing written in the bible about Pompeii. of course, the bible was already written before Pompeii was destroyed by volcanic eruptions.
With much time spent with Jesus, delving into my relationship with Him and my service to him, including my research, I would be remiss not to make some mental comparisons to live today in the world.
Are we living the life Jesus showed us through the example He provided while He walked the earth? It is a temptation to remain in bed on Sunday mornings when we work all week or have something planned with the kids. Sometimes, we can tell ourselves that we have not sinned when we have and entertain thoughts of sexual behavior, stealing, or missing Mass. The truth is entertaining such thoughts in and of themselves is a sin. What example are we giving to the little ones? If we truly want to live into old age while continuing to work, drive, and be a part of our community, we must understand that long life is said to be a blessing! Sign on today to work for God. Whether it be through some form of church ministry, evangelizing, musical talent in the church choir, painting, teaching, writing, or utilizing our God-given talents in helping others might be a consideration. God’s love and protection bring joy, contentment, and peace.
Awake each new day with a grateful heart, and begin each day with your priorities, but never end your day without time spent with and in God.
