DAY 1| NOVENA TO THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
Catholics around the world are continually put into a state of confusion because of the double standard that is set by Pope Francis on very serious issues. The United States border crisis is one example as the following article from Breitbart News conveys:
Tom Homan Calls Out Pope Francis for Border Hypocrisy
ROME — U.S. border czar Tom Homan has called out Pope Francis for criticizing U.S. immigration policy while threatening those who enter the Vatican illegally.
Homan told Newsmax this weekend that the pope should fix the Catholic Church before he starts criticizing the United States.
As Breitbart News reported, on the eve of President Trump’s inauguration, Pope Francis said his plan to deport illegal immigrants from the United States is a “disgrace,” insisting it is no way to solve America’s immigration crisis.
"They have a wall around the Vatican,” countered Homan, who describes himself as a lifelong Catholic. “And if you illegally enter the Vatican, the crime is serious. You’ll be charged with a serious crime. Be jailed.”
“So, he can protect the Vatican where he lives. He can build a wall where he lives, but American people are not allowed that,” he continued.
"The pope ought to stick to the Catholic Church and fix that. That’s a mess,” he said.
Not long ago, the Vatican announced it would be tightening of its own border controls, promising stiff penalties for anyone entering its territory or violating its airspace without permission.
The Vatican said that violators of its borders will face monetary fines ranging from 10,000 to 25,000 euros and prison sentences from one to four years.
Anyone who “enters the territory of Vatican City State with violence, threat, or deception will be punished with imprisonment from one year to four years and a fine from €10,000.00 to €25,000.00,” the Italian-language text reads.
“Entry by fraudulent circumvention of the State’s security and protection systems or by evading border controls shall be deemed to have occurred ‘by deception,’” the decree elucidates.
The Vatican City State is the only completely walled-in sovereign territory in the world, whose entry points are manned by members of the Swiss Guard, backed up by armed gendarmes not far away.
All but one of the entry points are locked tight from dusk until dawn.

The following article clearly explains the teaching of the Catholic Church on Illegal Immigration and gives many reasons for how important obedience to this teaching is. Hopefully our shepherds, especially Pope Francis, will have a change of heart and teach clearly and consistently this timeless teaching:
Illegal Immigration: A Sin Against Justice and Truth
Illegal immigration is not only a civil offense but also a moral failing rooted in deceit, dishonesty, and a lack of respect for justice. While compassion for the struggles of immigrants is important, illegal actions must never be justified as a form of social justice. True social justice uplifts communities without compromising morals, faith, and virtue—especially the virtues of honesty, truthfulness, and justice.
Illegal immigration is not just a violation of civil law; it is also a moral failing rooted in deceit and injustice. While some may seek refuge out of desperation, the means by which they enter and remain in a country often involve lying, deception, and taking unfair advantage of resources intended for lawful residents and immigrants. As the Bible reminds us, “Thou shalt not steal; neither shalt thou deal deceitfully, nor lie one to another” (Leviticus 19:11).
Illegal immigrants often utilize a nation’s resources—healthcare, education, and welfare systems—without contributing fairly or legally. In doing so, they unjustly burden taxpayers and deprive lawful citizens and immigrants of the full benefits they rightfully deserve. Many legal immigrants have worked hard to enter a country with honesty and integrity, respecting the laws and processes required. Illegal immigration, on the other hand, undermines their sacrifices and disrespects the principles of fairness and justice.
St. Augustine once wrote, “Charity is no substitute for justice withheld.” While it is important to show compassion, justice must prevail to ensure the rights of lawful inhabitants and immigrants are protected. Illegal immigration, by its nature, is an act of deception—living in the shadows while benefiting from a nation’s resources at the expense of those who abide by the law.
President Donald Trump’s policies to curb illegal immigration were steps toward restoring justice and fairness. Such measures are not about a lack of compassion but about ensuring that laws are respected and that resources are distributed equitably. As Romans 13:1-2 teaches, “Let every soul be subject to higher powers: for there is no power but from God: and those that are, are ordained of God. Therefore, he that resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God.”
St. Thomas Aquinas reminds us that “An unjust law is no law at all," but immigration laws are not inherently unjust—they are designed to maintain order and fairness within society. Violating these laws through illegal immigration is a sin against both the nation and its citizens.
The injustice is further compounded when illegal immigrants gain opportunities, jobs, or benefits at the expense of lawful residents and legal immigrants who have followed the rules. True freedom and fairness come through honest work and respect for the law, as St. John Paul II said: “Freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought.”
False social justice occurs when we justify illegal actions or dishonest practices in the name of compassion. True social justice must be rooted in the virtues of honesty, truthfulness, and fairness. It calls us to assist the needy in ways that respect the law and the common good, offering legal pathways and addressing root causes of migration rather than encouraging deceit.
As St. Thomas Aquinas said, "Justice is a certain rectitude of mind whereby a man does what he ought to do in the circumstances confronting him.” Let us pursue justice in all things, ensuring that our compassion aligns with truth and that our efforts to help others do not compromise the values that sustain a moral and virtuous society.
While we must address the root causes of migration and provide pathways for legal immigration, it is crucial to uphold justice and truth. Illegal immigration not only harms the nation but also perpetuates a cycle of deceit and injustice that goes against God’s commandments. By respecting the law, fostering justice, and offering compassionate but lawful solutions, we can ensure that charity and fairness coexist.
St. John Paul II emphasized, “Freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought.” True freedom comes through living in honesty and respecting the laws of the land, not through shortcuts that undermine justice. Social justice is not achieved by turning a blind eye to illegal actions. Instead, it is a process of helping communities grow and thrive while upholding moral principles and virtuous behavior.

There are other reasons that illegal immigration is a sin against justice and truth. One of the most important ones is that the widespread practice of illegal immigration has lead to hundreds of thousands of children coming illegally across the border and going missing and the horrid belief is that they are being trafficked. On top of that our government did nothing to protect these children during the Biden administration with Mayorkas stating that the missing and trafficked children were "outside of his responsibility."
This widespread illegal immigration has also lead to the destabalization of the United States as countries emptied their prisons and mental institutions into our country along with the proliferation of drug and human trafficking cartels.
God knows our fallen nature and our need for rules and regulations to keep us in line. God, help us to get our country back on track!
