Batman Forever: 30 Years
When was the last time you and your significant other enjoyed the simplest things? Today’s dating has been all about doing over-the-top things. Sometimes, we seem to forget about the simplest things that will help couples grow closer together.
Couples shouldn’t be chasing anything that luxurious. First, it will compromise one’s finances, as it is a factor in many divorces. Second, those are the things that won’t help couples grow closer to God
I remember a conversation with my fiancée on the topic of finance as we were discussing money. The first thing that came to our minds was how minimal we’ve been since we started dating.
Couples can still enjoy each other’s company without breaking the bank and compromising each other’s souls.
Some things that my fiancée and I have enjoyed can help couples make adjustments to eventually put God in the center of the relationship.
Attend Mass
Since our first date, my fiancée and I made it a point to attend Mass. Attend Mass together every Sunday and during the week when applicable.
Pray Morning Prayer
Every morning must begin with prayer. Praying is essential. It gives believers oxygen.
Pray the Rosary/Chaplet
Praying together can help strengthen the spiritual bond among couples. Without prayer, couples will never grow closer to God.
Listen to a Podcast and Discuss
Growing in faith can continue when listening to a podcast centered around the faith.
Cook Together
Find a recipe and make something together. It is fun to see what that other can be in the household on the day of the life of a married couple.
Design a Photo Album Together
It may be convenient to have pictures posted on social media for convenience. Yet, we seem to forget to create something tangible that doesn’t involve screen time. Photo albums may be dying because of how much we’ve embraced technology, but they will still be around if everyone embraces the old way of holding onto memories. As you're flipping through the pages, share stories of that photo.
Host a Supper Party
Invite fellow Catholic couples over for fellowship and food. Consider praying evening prayer together. Invite others to bring a side dish or cook everything on their own if ambitious.
Book Club
Some couples have a big pile of books that are to be read. Take some time to read books together. Perhaps there are some Catholic spiritual books worth reading together and having discussions about it.
There are so many ways to connect with that significant other that don’t involve money. It’s all about the quality of time spent with each other.
Grow, pray, and even nurture the romance as you embark on the calling to say “yes” to true love and the Sacrament of Matrimony.
