The Grief of A Lost Loved One
Death, and dying are devastating words to most of us, death is so final. It conjures up thoughts of words such as ending, over, or no more and gone forever. We mourn the loss of a loved one, and it can trigger thoughts and feelings that can be depressing as we believe their passing was a great loss to us.
We mortals here on earth, however, know not what has transpired after the death of our loved ones. Do we understand fully the meaning of death in this world known as Earth? There are those who have achieved a higher level of understanding during their time on earth and turned toward choosing to live and love and be of service to our creator, and that sincere decision removes us spiritually, emotionally, and mentally from this world as they contemplate gratitude for our Creator, and a desire to achieve a peaceful passage into our next existence.
These fortunate souls have come to understand that monetary gain and achieving great wealth will not provide us with that inner peace the soul searches for. In fact, the bible tells us as Jesus said; “Our soul will not rest until it rests in Him.”
Matthew 11: 28-29 Jesus said “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Confessions of St. Augustine; Saint Augustine is quoted saying: “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”
This is a spiritual revelation for those who seek God in their life, and those who find Him, seek ways to remain in Him for as long as they live. While some, in spiritual immaturity, may feel that they are not ready to turn their life over to Christ, may find that they do feel the pangs of unfulfillment, and are restless. Dying to the world, and focusing on Christ is not only a service to God, it benefits others whom we come in contact with as well. Moreover, it opens the door to heaven, and we begin to reap the many graces and blessings God desires to give to us.
Each of us is given the opportunity to grow and learn in our spiritual lives so that we can understand what will be sincerely fulfilling, and what will remain within us. For it is true, wealth, beauty, treasures, and even our health will one day fade away if we live long enough. What stays within our hearts forever is the knowledge that our God remains in us when we remain in Him by avoidance of sin, and nurturing of our relationship with Him.
