Total Recall: Remember Your Death
March 5th will mark the beginning of a new season in the liturgical calendar. It may feel like yesterday Catholics had Advent preparations that would give way to Christmas celebrations.
Now, as we are in February, it can be a bit intimidating to realize that a change is coming. Yes, we are in the dead of winter. However, we have a change coming to prepare for spring.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, which is 40 days leading up to the Easter Triduum.
Lent is a time for us to improve in ways that will help us overcome the many vices or obstacles that will keep us from growing in holiness. Its three pillars are prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
Lent is a time for us to grow closer to God. It will happen when overcoming the temptations of the world and attaching ourselves more to what will come in the next life.
The time to prepare is now.
Questions to Ponder
What will you give up for Lent? Do you have something to do in its place? (IE, giving up the screen and reading the bible more)
What are some things that are an obstacle in growing closer to God?
How can you emulate Christ more in every encounter you will have daily?
