The lilies of St Joseph

     Did you know, that when contending for the hand in marriage to our beloved Blessed Mother Mary, suitors were to lay their staff before Her. If that staff blossomed after laying it down before her, then that was a sign that God was showing to be the pick to be Mary's spouse. 

    St Joseph, laying his staff before the feet of Mary, in front of the elders, for all to see, his staff blossomed with beautiful radiant flowers resembling lilies. So therefore deeming him, spouse to be.

    Lilies. A symbol of purity and integrity. He is the chaste spouse of the Virgin Mary. He holds Lily's to represent his commitment to a life of Chastity and his role as protector of Mary's"virginity". The white lily is recognized as a symbol of purity and innocence. 

    The three lilies he holds represents the blessed Trinity. God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 

    Often a stock of white flowers is called "a Saint Joseph's Lily" they are so beautiful aren't they? 

     Saint Ann Catherine Emerick describes the day when Joseph was chosen to be the spouse of Mary. She described it with branches that the men brought. Nevertheless, be it a branch or staff, St Joseph's was the one that blossomed. He became protector and provider for our dear Mother Mary and the child jesus. He died in their Holy arms and has been granted the honor of being protector of All families. 

     February, is the month dedicated to the"family". Let us ask, beloved St Joseph for protection for our family and offer him the lily of our hearts.
