An alternative solution to the Millennium of Apocalypse 19 to 20 

Concerning the Catholic response to the Evangelical rapture

Effectively , the Catholic Church would say that this gathering up of all of those alive and of those who are dead is con commitment with the second coming itself ,which is itself the end of human history as we know it. 

The second coming is the definitive conclusion of human history, where all of humanity will rise at the same time, the just unto eternal life in the new creation, and the damned onto a horrible body that will burn forever in the fire. 

There is no room for two resurrections, first one of the just, and then a literal Millennium of Old Testament activity of the literal resurrected Christ on earth, followed by then a second resurrection of the Damned and a destruction of humanity. 

This is why the book of Revelation was contested when the Catholic Church was forming the canon since it was at odds with the Creed , which says that from hence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

As it stands, Saint Augustine gave at least two solutions to interpret this millennium, both of which are figurative. You are probably aware of the most common one which is what Protestants call amillennialism. 

This more or less explains away the Millennium as simply a symbol of the great period between pagan Rome and the antichrist, where the church goes out to renew the world and in which the dragon is at least chained in a sense from from presenting the horrific rebellion at the end , which would be symbolized by his loosening after the millennium. 

And yet also Augustine suggested a secondary solution , which is that the millennium is a spiritual reign of the Gospel toward the end of the world. And personal speculation I argue the following, that such spiritual Sabbath would lie between an intermediate apostasy for the kingdom of God and the great apostasy and Antichrist at the end. 

this is the view that I am suggesting from the testimony of the days of creation as the ages of the world and of the beast Kings of Apocalypse 17 , both of which are eight or seven extended to 8, like the Octave of music, which in each key there are seven notes, but you do not reach a resolution until you come to the 8th note, the octave, which returns you to the first. 

In this view, this is something that the Catholic church does not define but perhaps will become something looked into by theologians: in this sense currently , Catholic approved prophecy suggests that the best possible scenario of what remains for church history in a spiritual sense is that right now, it is not the end of the world but is rather a dress rehearsal for the end of the world.

This means that a great portion of the world is in godlessness like it will be at the very end, and this is mainly the European civilizations and their derivatives ,which is to say the societies that used to be Christian but that are now largely godless, either being atheist or relativists , no longer practicing sound judeo-christian values but placing their faith in the powers of this life rather than God. 

This condition is inviting disaster apocalyptically because it simply is not possible to maintain peace and prosperity apart from the gospel, which is where human beings allow Jesus' Grace to work in their hearts to live the moral law and love their fellow man. 

Apart from this power of the Holy Spirit, no amount of technological progress in medicine, etc or affluence etc can ever save humanity and provide true prosperity and security.

As a consequence, the world is going to have to pass through the terrible consequences of not listening to God in all facets, so that what we are about to experience is unfathomable horror , the main lead up which could be to the annihilation of various nations, especially according to the prophecies of the blessed Virgin Mary and the supreme apparition of Fatima which you can read about, where 70 to 80,000 people witnessed an unfathomable miracle that was foretold months in advance, where the  the sun in a vision hurled towards the Earth horrifically and causing people to scream for God and then suddenly it stopped and all of their clothes were dry after having been drenched wet by rain all day. 

The virgin in fact foretold in 1917, the time of the apparition , told that Russia would horrifically persecute Christians and that it's errors would spread throughout the world , and all of this did happen , since communism horrifically persecuted people of Goodwill first in Russia then in Eastern Europe and China and beyond. 

By the grace of God the West was largely spared but nevertheless now the devil has been attacking the world through different form of godlessness, the deception of materialistic affluence and relativism, which relieves people of a conscience , that they can just believe whatever they want , to live however they want , and get away with it. 

Either way the devil has used these two monstrous ideologies to lead humanity away from the gospel and when it is through , we may veritably see the annihilation of certain Nations precisely because when man has not peace with God it is only a time it is only a matter of time before they kill one another in unfathomable ways. 

However the prophecies of Fatima say that before humanity destroys themselves in this manner , they will finally repent at this time and realize that they need Jesus and his Catholic church in all its facets. 

Consequently, there will be a mass repentance and then near whole of the world will enter the Catholic church or come back to it, and there will be a great period of peace, especially spiritual and moral peace, and this can be what the millennium means in my humble speculation, v as a symbol of this great period of rest from sin and iniquity, the seventh day Sabbath of human history. 

But then after this Great era that will last for an indeterminate period of time, the fall must return because humanity simply can never persistently love God unto the end but will inevitably fall again and eventually in this age of Peace , parents will start growing lax and they will stop confirming their children.

This will pave the way for the great apostasy and the coming of antichrist, in which then the horrific persecution of the church WIll commence , the conversion of the Jews , and the Great tribulation , and then in some indeterminate time in that tribulation, Christ returns to end human history as we know it. 

As an addendum to this discourse, we must ask why before the so-called Millennium the beast and the false prophet are cast into the Fire, but not the dragon, who is only chained in the abyss, until he is loosed later and then destroyed with fire. 

The profound meaning I see here is that effectively the first resurrection of the just after carrying after the casting of the beast in the false prophet into the Fire symbolizes the greatest manifestation of redemption within human history, which is to say this side of the end of time. 

The resurrection of the just really means a resurrection of faith and righteousness in the world that will happen as described above after the coming tribulation. 

The second resurrection of the Damned can then indicate the opposite, which is the fullness of the Fall within human history, where after the period of peace, and after having learned their lesson apocalyptically in what is most likely to come soon in our current time, their rejection of God on the great apostasy simply will have no excuse, and they will be incurably turning away from god, radically blaspheming the Holy Spirit and spitting in God's face. 

This apocalyptic second death will then mean the ultimate manifestation of the Fall that is incurable this side of the end of time. 

Hence, only after the second coming which vanquishes this horror, is the ultimate destruction attained, where are the final person of the diabolical Trinity, the dragon, is cast into the fire, which then descendantly ends our human history and ushers in the ultimate separation of Good and evil and the new creation that will never end.

Hope this helps to explain not what the Catholic Church formally believes at this time but is part of my personal speculation joined to this general scenario that seems to be what is going to happen based upon the fully approved private Revelations of the church
