To the Ends of the Earth: Character – Week 3, Day 5 - Discipline Makes Us Ready to Begin Again Every Time We Fall
I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the LORD!”
Our feet have been standing
within your gates, O Jerusalem!
Jerusalem, built as a city
which is bound firmly together,
to which the tribes go up,
the tribes of the LORD,
as was decreed for Israel,
to give thanks to the name of the LORD.
Psalm 122:1–4
The ultimate goal of our salvation journey is heaven itself. The road may be long and difficult, filled with struggles and temptations, but if we keep our eyes are fixed on the goal, we can finish the journey and claim our heavenly prize. The farther we go, the more our anticipation builds to see the holy city where we will delight to worship and adore God forever. All our searching, all our longing, and all our trials and tribulations will find their meaning and fulfillment when we reach the gates of heaven.
Throughout our journey we will meet many who are seeking what we have found in Christ. As we share our lives and our faith with others, we pray that their eyes also will be opened to see the glorious ending God has in store for all who hope in him. What a joy it is to know that our journey can lead others into God’s kingdom. As we continue our personal and communal journeys, let us never tire of seeking the One who has established our home in heaven.
Questions for reflection
Do you look for signs of heaven on your day-to-day journey of life? What signs are in front of you right now?
How does having your eyes fixed on heaven help to make the trials of life easier to bear?
How can you share the hope of eternity with another man today?
Praying with Scripture
You will bring them in, and plant them on your own mountain,
the place, O LORD, which you have made for your abode,
the sanctuary, O LORD, which your hands have established. (Ex 15:17)
