Apostolic Succession

We the sheep are lead by a shepherd

Someone who cares and is quite learned

Shepherds know what to say to keep us occupied

They know too even when wrong how much we’ve tried

The shepherd offers by himself as an example

How we should act as we are his people

Their job is not necessarily to keep us safe and comfortable

But to help us and steer us around all sorts of trouble

Jesus the first and our ultimate Shepherd

And when He left it was Peter He appointed

Since then a living lineage has been carried on

Every Catholic priest a shepherd traced back to our Lord via Apostolic Succession

They who help guide their flocks constantly

Through prayer counseling Sacraments not just Sunday but every day

Listen to your shepherds for they truly care

And to assist them please offer for them to our Lord a prayer
