Prayer for an Evangelistic Spirit

Lord,

I am daily besieged by things

contrary to my heart

and my soul

I see and hear things on the streets

in the news

and even in my entertainment

that are far from you

when someone asks where you are

why you allow evil to run rampant

I am often ashamed to speak in your defense

driven by my need for acceptance

how can others come to know you

without me speaking your name?

how will they discover your compassion

your faithfulness,

your grace

if in me they see only fear?

Lord, help me to speak your name gladly

to proclaim you as redeemer and savior

to let my faith shine

so that others will come to know you

through my hope in you

and to understand that all questions

are answered in your promises
