Rejoice: 3rd Sunday of Advent Reflection
Lent begins on March 5th. Some may have a clear idea of what sacrifices they intend to make. Meanwhile, as Lent approaches, we may need to make suggestions to consider prayerfully.
Here are some suggestions for someone to consider for their Lenten sacrifice.
Sweet treats
It can serve a healthy and holy purpose. We are tempted to snack on sweets as an easy way to feel full. Consider giving up one sugary sweet.
Closet Clean Out
A good practice for giving alms is to go through our closets. Let’s face it: We will find that dress or dress outfit that we no longer wear, and it may benefit someone who needs clothes.
Meatless Lent
Yes, we are supposed to give up meat on Fridays of Lent. Go an extra mile and give it up all 40 days.
Oversleeping
Sleep is good. When our alarms go off, it can be tempting to get a few more minutes of sleep. Consider getting up early and going to bed early. Getting up early can help us have more time to pray, get in an early workout, or attend Mass during the week.
Retail Therapy
Some of us have used online shopping or in-person shopping to take our minds off of what is happening. Then, we have no thought about spending money on unnecessary things. Yes, essentials like food, hygienic products, and even medicine are okay to spend our money. We must control our spending on materialistic things like clothes, books, make-up, etc.
Cook Food and Avoid Take Out
Another way to curb our spending is to make our food. It will be a win-win for our budget and health. Homecooked meals or even weekly meal prep can be better than ordering food from a restaurant.
Hot showers
It’s good to have a warm shower. Maybe it’s time to take it to the extreme with a cold shower. Cold showers are linked to boosting alertness, improving circulation, reducing inflammation, and potentially aiding in muscle recovery after exercise.
When taking away a worldly comfort, add things in its place like praying a rosary, angelus, adoration time, and even Daily Mass.
The purpose of Lent is to help push our boundaries. It is to help us grow in greatness. Let it be a time of much spiritual growth.
