Mary, Star of the Sea
My friend Deb, recently gave me knowledge of the importance of ringing a bell, or the "ringing of bells".
The Church offers us yet another Sacramental. The Blessed Bell! There is a special blessing reserved for the Bishop to bless a bell. He may give permission for a priest to use this blessing. In so too, God makes the blessing of the Bell very powerful in its effects.
It is a wondrous and Holy blessing, including Holy oil and the power of the Sign of the Cross. The Bell is anointed inside and out. The final blessing has the Bell held above a burning blend of Blessed Frankincense and Myrrh allowing the smoke to rise up inside of it. How beautiful!
There are reasons to ring a Blessed Bell!
1) to call people to the Sacrifice of the Mass
2) to increase people's devotion, faith and morality
3) to drive away demons from tempting and bothering people
4) to rid the air of demons, so that any bad weather will cease.
How powerful this sacramental is! Any weapon against the enemy is a faithful, powerful weapon. How great is our God? How wonderful He is! He protects us in all ways.
When we hear the large Church Bell in the Bell Tower or the smaller Bell in our home, car, office or any other place, let this Sacramental stir our hearts to pray. It can help us live the faith in Jesus Christ and drive away demons in our life and the atmosphere.
As my friend has said, "Praise God! Ring that Bell!
