Fruit That Will Remain
A priest recently told me: “Thank God for what He is doing in your life right now” without knowing anything that was happening in my life. A few days before he said this, I saw a quote: “Thank God for the blessings He is about to give you.” Then, a song spoke to me with a line: “We’ll stand grateful for all that has been left behind and all that goes before us.”
God speaks in repetition, and was clearly sending a message to me.
The idea of thanking God for the future blessings He will provide and the path ahead during a transition with a lot of unknowns is a new level of faith for me. God is calling me to praise Him with expectancy that He is moving me into something good, but something that has yet to be revealed.
Sometimes in the midst of struggles or transitions, it can be difficult to thank God for what you are going through or to even believe that a blessing is on the other side (especially if it isn’t pleasant). Faith challenges us to believe that our God is good, that He is for us and not against us, and that there is a blessing awaiting. The story has not ended, and the path has abundance in store. God urges us to praise Him in the hallway.
When I reflected on what God was asking me, I thought about the past transitions I’ve gone through. Every single one had landed me with a blessing of some sort, sometimes small or sometimes large, and in hindsight, I should have praised God for those blessings before they happened.
The lesson here is believe in the goodness of our God. Don’t just thank God for your current blessings, thank Him also for the ones you have yet to receive. That's what our faith teaches us, and what our faith demands of us.
