The Innocents
New York was ground zero for the abortion movement when it passed a law in 1971 allowing legal abortion. That same law passed on the state level would propel its way to the high court of the United States, paving the way to nearly five decades of bloodshed before the court in 2022 made up of women who overruled a fault cast by seven men in black robes.
On the solemnity of St. Joseph, the faithful of New York awakens to the news that Planned Parenthood of Lower Manhattan will close its doors for good after being in operation for over three decades. The faithful had faith in Christ, who helped deliver the victory to the faithful, particularly the priest and religious who faithfully took part in weekly or daily vigils. The news comes as a writer from Gothamist that the closing comes amid financial pressures and mounting maintenance costs.
Jeffrey Bruno, a photojournalist, has documented the peaceful demonstrations of pro-lifers in New York who took part in many prayer vigils at this soon-to-close facility.
For more than a decade, he chronicled the unwavering faith of pro-lifers who prayed outside of the facility from the bitter cold to the sweltering heat, harassment from pro-abortion stalkers, and everything far and in between.
Bruno remarked that the closing of this modern-day Jericho in Lower Manhattan was no ordinary closure but a “moment of Divine intervention—a testament to the power of Grace.”
He felt that it correlated with St. Joseph’s feast day in a special way, St. Joseph’s life was marked by “unwavering obedience to God and protection of the most vulnerable.” The faithful mirrored his example through his quiet and “steadfast witness.”
“This closure might seem like just another business decision, another casualty of financial strain to the outside world. But to those who've knelt on those sidewalks, who've poured out their hearts in prayer, it feels like something far more profound: a miracle—a moment when Heaven touched Earth, and the countless prayers of the faithful were answered.” Jeffrey wrote on his blog.
This gives pro-lifers hope as we’re just only a quarter into 2025.
This will be a rallying cry for all pro-lifers that we must double down on prayers and other spiritual works to help make miracles happen.
Catholics must step into the breach to make moments like this happen.
Let’s answer the call to protect life at its most vulnerable stage.
