To the Ends of the Earth: Character – Week 3, Day 2 - Discipline Means Understanding Our Limitations
For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one origin. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying,
“I will proclaim your name to my brethren,
in the midst of the congregation I will praise you.”
Hebrews 2:10–12
It is an awesome, unfathomable truth that Jesus became like us so that he could destroy the power of death that held sway over our lives. That we can call the Son of the Living God our brother should bring us to our knees in wonder. Because Jesus is the source of our salvation, we are all members of the one family of faith.
All our words and actions are grounded in the One who suffered for our sins. Our changed lives, moving ever forward along the path of salvation, are holy signs of the love that overcomes all sin and transforms stumbling sinners into solid saints. Our high calling is to give glory to God in how we witness to his saving power in the way we live our lives and reach out to those who are seeking a Savior.
Questions for reflection
What amazes you most about Jesus becoming our brother to lead us back to the Father?
Do you truly look to Jesus as the source of the strength you need to live every day? Where can you seek his grace a bit more?
How can you witness to the power of Christ’s love to everyone you meet today?
Praying with Scripture
Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. (1 Jn 4:7)
