Feeling too Busy to Pray? 5 Simple Ways to Talk to God Throughout Your Day
Have you ever felt like you’re wandering in the dark, uncertain where to turn? Doubt is creeping in, or the weight of your struggles is making it hard to hold on. If that’s where you are right now, take heart—you’re not alone.
Scripture shows that God remains steady, faithful, and merciful even in the most challenging moments—when life feels overwhelming and faith feels fragile.
No matter how lost you feel, hope is never out of reach.
Let’s look at His promises and find strength in the truth that He is near, even when we can’t see the way forward.
When I was going through a tough time, I was fortunate to have my mother there to constantly remind me that this, too, shall pass. I had just moved away from my friends and lost my job, and I honestly didn’t know what my future would be. It was hard to see past the present moment, and it was easy to feel like things would never improve.
But in those moments, I found solace in prayer and the comforting words of scripture.
We’re not alone in these feelings of doubt and struggle. The Bible shows us that throughout history, people have wrestled with uncertainty and fear. But it also reminds us of this truth: God is always near, even amid life’s storms.
Every day, or at any moment when we bring our worries to God, the Bible tells us that His mercy is there for us.
“But this I call to my mind; therefore, I have hope: The Lord’s faithful love does not cease; his compassion does not fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:21-23
What does it look like to seek God in difficult times?
Even though life around us is changing, God remains constant.
“Let us acknowledge the Lord. Let us press on to know the Lord. As surely as the sun rises, the Lord will appear. He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain that waters the earth.” – Hosea 6:3
If life feels out of your control or like you’re alone in a sea of doubt, bring those worries to God. Tell Him what’s on your heart. He already knows—but when we surrender our struggles to Him, we make room for His peace.
In my own experience, praying and admitting that I don’t know what to do—that I do have doubt—helps me release control. Simply saying, “Lord, I don’t understand, but I trust that You are near, and I trust in Your love,” shifts my perspective.
God invites us to press on, to seek Him, and to trust that He is working, even when we can’t see it yet.
When we trust in God’s faithfulness, hope begins to take root. But what happens when hope feels out of reach?
Looking back now, I can see my mother was right—and she would add here that, of course, a mother is always right! But those difficult times, yes, they did pass.
God is our anchor of hope during emotional uncertainty.
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13
God is the source of true hope, filling us with joy and peace. But sometimes, hope feels like a distant thing—something we want to have, but don’t know how to cultivate. So how do we invite hope into our daily lives?
Here are a few simple ways:
Before you roll out of bed in the morning (bonus points if it’s before you scroll on your phone!), take a moment to check in with God before you start your day. Let Him fill your thoughts first before letting the rest of the world in.
Not sure how to start? That’s okay! Just say, “God, I don’t know where to begin.” The beauty of prayer is that you’ve already started the moment you open your heart to Him.
A simple way to begin: “Good morning, God. I’m grateful for another day.”
Keep a verse with you throughout your day—on a sticky note, on your phone’s lock screen, somewhere you’ll see it. Read it, meditate on it, let it guide your thoughts.
Jesus is the Living Word of God, and scripture is His message to us. Every time we read it, we’re connecting with Him.
End your day with a short prayer, thanking God for three things.
Big or small, it doesn’t matter. Once you start looking for things to be thankful for, you may be surprised at how long your list becomes! But if you’re struggling to think of anything, start small:
Thank You that I’m alive today.
Thank You that I have a bed to sleep in tonight.
Thank You that I made it through today.
Gratitude shifts our perspective from what’s missing to what’s already present.
Even in the hardest times, there is always something to be thankful for.
The enemy wants you to believe that you’re alone, but God’s love never wavers.
“But you, Lord, are a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness and truth.” – Psalm 86:15
His love is like a steady anchor in the stormy sea of life, always there to guide and protect us.
Even if we don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, we can trust in God’s promises.
Whatever you’re going through right now, remember that this, too, shall pass.
When we anchor ourselves in His grace, we find the strength to endure.
God meets us in our struggles.
You don’t have to be perfect or have everything figured out before you go to Him. You don’t have to have all the answers.
Come as you are.
Pray and meditate on these verses, or find the ones that resonate most with you.
If you struggle to trust in these promises, bring that to God too. Tell Him. Ask for guidance.
He loves you, He is near, and He wants a relationship with you—not just in the good times, but in the hard ones, too.
Where do you need to trust in God’s hope and faithfulness today?
