Prayer for God's Will

The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.-Proverbs 16:1

The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.-Psalm 37:23-24

Prayer for God’s Will

Father,

I often pray

asking for blessings for myself

or for others

sometimes for healing

often for relief from one problem

or another

my intentions are good

hoping to find strength

or wisdom or grace

or to ask a favor

for someone in need

but sometimes I forget

that Your will is what matters

before we were knit in the womb

You knew us

You know our minds, our souls, our hearts

You know when we will do right

and when we will do wrong

I know that You are a loving father

that You want only good things for us

when our lives are disrupted

and we are tossed into anxiety

over great and small tribulations,

we ask for relief

we forget to look to Your presence

that our lives are in Your hands

that our moments of trial

may be a crucible

where we are made stronger by adversity

we must choose to believe

even in the face of sorrow

we should never forget that our joy

is the full measure of Your grace

I ask now,

not for wisdom or mercy or Your favor

but only that Your will be done

my faith tells me that Your plan is flawless

in time I will come to know

that all that has happened to me,

to those around me

and to the world

will find its way into my heart

and my knowledge of You

will be complete

“Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done.”
