Feeling too Busy to Pray? 5 Simple Ways to Talk to God Throughout Your Day
When I was first trying to add more prayer into my daily life, I’ll be honest—I felt a little intimidated.
Am I doing this right? What do I even say? I don’t have much time… should I just skip it?
If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and I want to share the 5-minute prayer habit that completely shifted my perspective.

A wise teacher once told me: “Set a timer for five minutes and just start there.”
But here’s the key—this isn’t about following a rigid rule. It’s about finding a rhythm that works for you. Whether it’s 30 seconds or five minutes, this habit is meant to be gentle, adaptable, and life-giving. You’re in charge of your spiritual journey. ??
Here’s the simple 3-step method I return to again and again:
Pause. Take a deep breath and pray:
“Dear Lord, thank You for the blessings I’ve been given and for those I have yet to receive.”
Reflect. Share one thing you’re grateful for—or struggling with. Or both. Be honest.
Rest. Close with:
“Thank You for watching over me. Please guide me through the rest of my day. Amen.”
I like to begin and end with the sign of the cross—and a quiet moment with a deep breathe in and out.
It builds consistency.
Pair this prayer with something you already do—brushing your teeth, buckling your seatbelt, pouring your morning coffee. Small rhythms add up and act as little reminders.
It removes the pressure.
When you’re unsure what to say or how to start, this Pause–Reflect–Rest flow gives you a simple starting point.
It brings God into your everyday.
“When you call out to me and come forth and pray to me, I will listen to you”
— Jeremiah 29:12
No matter how short or unpolished your prayer may feel—God hears it. He’s with you.
If five minutes—or even one—is all you have, that’s more than enough.
God doesn’t require perfect words. He just desires your presence.
“The Lord is near to all who call out to him, to all who call out to him sincerely.”
— Psalm 145:18
Try this habit for 3–5 days and journal what you notice. How do you feel after? What shifts in your mindset or spirit?
If this practice encouraged you, share it with someone who might need it too—or save it to Pinterest so you can return to it when life feels heavy. You never know how your small share might inspire someone else's faith journey.
