Hail! Our Lady of Fatima
"What if" that was you getting caught, literally, and the act of adultery? Then dragged, probably naked, into the streets with the people that caught you yelling that you had just been caught in this terrible act?
"What if" that was you warming Your hands by a fire, lit in the trash can, on a cold night because you were homeless and had no home?
"What if" that was you, begging along with your children, for just a morsel of food because your belly's we're way past the point of hungry?
Many "what ifs". Many scenarios. Today's Gospel talks about the first scenario. Jesus was among the crowd of people on the street. Trying to trap Him, the Sadducees asked Him, "what would " He" do to this sinful woman. " It is written", they say, "that Moses says to Stone her to death". Eagerly waiting for His answer, He takes His eyes away from them and bends down to draw in the dirt. Calmly pausing for just a bit, seeing the woman's soul in His mind, He says the perfect answer. "Whoever of you are without sin, May cast the first stone". Being the Elders of the Torah, they knew that no sin is greater than the other. They each drop their stones walking away angry and embarrassed that Jesus was right. Jesus is so cool. He's just so smart. I love Him. Asking the woman, "where are they?". Her answer would have been stated with pure shock." They have all left sir", as she stands there trembling. "I neither condemn you, go now and sin no more". How merciful of God we have!
Many "what ifs" will arise in our lives and "if" we don't give heed to stop and really think about what "Jesus really would do", we will find our road to Heaven quite rocky. We must take the words of Jesus and put them in our lives always. Just keep remembering, "what if"..... That was you......
