Without sacrifice, we would not know what love looks like.
Sure, we may be stuck thinking we cannot do much with so much going on, but we are spiritual and material beings. The spiritual world and material world may seem so disconnected, but not-so. We, as human beings, stand in both worlds. So, the spiritual affects the material and the material affects the spiritual.
So, where am I going with this? The material world seems to be crumbling. Perhaps, that is because the spiritual world is crumbling. If we build back up the spiritual, would that not build up the material?
"The real problem at this moment of our history is that God is disappearing from the human horizon, and, with the dimming of the light which comes from God, humanity is losing its bearings, with increasingly evident destructive effects." – Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI in 2009 (before he retired/stepped down).
There are two simple prayer campaigns that I heard of recently. (1) The Knights of Columbus called for a nine-day novena praying a small prayer to St. Francis <below>. (2) Almost simpler is a call for everyone to pray 1 minute a day at 8pm every night. That’s right 1 minute! Standing together in the spiritual battle will greatly make a difference.
St. Francis prayer:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
