As The Years Go By
CREATION, BEGINNING
Creation sings its perfect song:
It’s a harmony of love, of goodness, of unity.
Instituted by a word, a whisper, a power of the Spirit;
God gives life to all that live.
Life, made visible by the only God and Lord;
Comes into being, separate from heaven above.
The Lord wants to dwell with the seas and submerged land-
Bringing forth all, from nothing into something.
In seven days, a symbol of building-
Whether earth, man, or temple; reality begins;
The Alpha, the Source, creates living, growing things.
And God saw it was all good.
Adam, first man, made in the image of God Himself,
Given breath of life, he becomes a living soul;
Infused with supernatural life of grace-
Is given all man needs to glorify God.
Covenant of creation with Adam and partner, Eve-
Unite Creator with creation in a paradise of blessing.
Man, a composite of matter and Spirit, is given free will;
The Creator is the potter; man being the vessel.
Into the Garden of Eden a tree of life comes forth-
Wisdom and immortality seeded in its fruits.
Watered by the rivers, it grew straight and strong;
Man was to cultivate, to guard it from harm.
Alongside, is the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
God warns man though, not to eat of its fruit.
It is a boundary one must never cross
Else the curse of death will enter life.
The serpent tempts; Adam and Eve eat its fruit.
When God walks in the garden in the cool of the day
The couple run from Him; not acknowledging their guilt.
Only fear, not trust, does remain in their hearts.
Man rejects his loving Maker,
Clothed in sin, misery; breaking first God’s covenant.
Leaving man a distorted image of God’s goodness, His mercy;
Maybe this image is still embedded within our own hearts.
