Who Sees What the Almighty Sees?
What is the definition of Mercy?
We have faith that God is filled with mercy and compassion for all people. God asks us to be merciful as He is merciful. God commands that we show mercy and compassion for one another.
But what exactly is mercy? We need to know what it means to be merciful. As we study the definition of mercy let us think of how mercy is practiced in our lives, how God is merciful to us and how we in turn are merciful to others.
-kind or forgiving treatment of someone who could be treated harshly
-kindness or help given to people who are in a very bad or desperate situation
-a blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion
What is the Catholic definition of Mercy?
The disposition to be kind and forgiving, founded on compassion. Mercy differs from compassion or the feeling of sympathy in putting this feeling into practice with a readiness to assist. It is therefore the ready willingness to help anyone in need, especially in need of pardon or reconciliation. ** Indeed a fitting definition of God’s mercy and the mercy God expects us to practice.
