God knows I try
"Eternal Father, I offer to you, the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son Jesus Christ. In Union with all the masses said throughout the world today. For all of the Holy Souls in Purgatory. For sinners everywhere. For sinners in the Universal Church. Those in my own home and within my own family. Amen"
This precious prayer was given to us by Saint Gertrude. A Holy and loyal friend of Jesus. Of God. Born on January 6th, 1256, she became a German Benedictine nun. A mystic who was a member of the Monastery of Helfta. Born on the feast of the Epiphany. Her devout parents offered her as a child "oblate" to the Church. She was educated in the care of "Mechtilde". She was a writer of many wonderful books familiar with Scripture. In 1281, at age 25, she experienced the first of a series of visions, which continued for the rest of her days and which changed the course of her life. She received the "invisible stigmata". She considered herself as a "bride of Christ". She showed tender sympathy toward the Souls in Purgatory and urged all to pray daily for them.
By constructing this simple and powerful prayer, our Lord promised that it would deliver 1,000 Souls from Purgatory each time it was said. What a beautiful prayer and sentiment indeed. To be able to be a part of someone in Purgatory and their salvation to the release of their souls. From the torment of Purgatory to the glories of Heaven.
Spread this prayer with me! Let's help the souls that cannot help themselves. They're intercession for us is equally powerful. They need us while we are still on earth. So, daily pray for All Souls in Purgatory. We will meet each and every one of them and they will welcome us as part of the Family of God.
Eternal Rest in the Light of Heaven is what we should all desire when we die. And by the prayer that Saint Gertrude gave us, we can be assured of just that.
