Consider the Season
Palm Sunday begins our Holy-week journey.
On Holy Monday Mary of Bethany anoints
the feet of Jesus. Only Judas—thief & betrayer—
mentions selling costly spikenard, using the
money for the poor. “The poor will always be
with you.” is true. We should help the poor.
On Tuesday—in present day— priests renew their
vows at the Chrism Mass. On Wednesday Judas
betrayed Jesus. On Thursday, the Eucharist began.
Body & Blood, Soul & Divinity enter bodies of
those present, as Jesus lifted the bread, & likewise,
the cup. The priesthood began in the Upper Room
that night. Yes, theology matters.
According to history, Jesus died on Friday,
& Holy Mary, His Mother—whom we honor—
remained at the foot of the Cross through earth quake
& blackened sky, as He cried out, “It is finished!”
(because it is.) Mary caressed His blood-stained body
before men took Him to His grave, Women anointed
Him quickly. Followers thought He was in His tomb
all day Saturday until in the early hours Sunday
when He rose as promised. “Hallelujah,” we will sing.
“He is Risen!” “We are saved.” But do not forget
Jesus harrowed Hell while the earth was silent. He
folded His burial linens just so. He died to save us all.
He is coming back “to judge the living and the dead.”
