In case you did not know St Monica was a native of North Africa and mother of St Augustine of Hippo one of early Catholic churches greatest theologians, St Josephine Bakhita as a small child was kidnapped from her family in the Suden of North Africa sold into the cruel institution of slavery. During that time she was branded, beaten, and harshly punished for small infractions. Through her life of service to other she became the first African woman to be canonized a Saint in the 21ts century. St Martin de Porres a black Catholic of Spanish descent devoted his life to working on behalf of the poor. Who during the height of the Civil rights movement in1962 was canonized a Saint of the Catholic church. St Benedict the Moor experience discrimination and racism for the dark complexion of his skin, he used his God given abilities to help and heal the sick. The Ethiopian general St Maurice along with 6000 of his soldiers were put death for refusing to kill fellow Christian. St. Perpetua and St. Felicity both young African women tortured and killed for their faith in Christ., Saint Charles Lwanga and Saint Kizito who was only 13 years old were among the Ugandan martyrs who were marched 37 miles to their execution. These are only a few of the hundreds of black Catholic Saints whose lives forever impacted the traditions and customs of the Catholic church. Despite the efforts of these black Catholic Saints, thousands of black Catholic people experienced the sharp pains of racism and prejudice. Untimely leaving the Catholic church. Jesus Christ give his life and these black Saints and for us so that no person would ever feel less than another person. It is important that we keep in mind we are all called to be saints know matter the color of one's skin.
