Black Catholic Saints
In speaking on the topic of Catholic church music with my son I was informed that in his opinion the Catholic church has come a long way but still has some work to do to hold his attention every Sunday. For example the music could stand a more modern tone, not that the music is completely out of fashion as my son explained but young people today have become accustom to creating their own sound. Some express a desire to hear more of a secular sound. In hearing this I explained that Catholic church music is a combination of psalms and praise which were once upon a time sung only in Latin so therefore to listen to the songs now being sung in English is a modern day change. I also told of of the day's when the guitar was first introduced in mass in the 70's. I was only to be met with the rebuttal "wow". I then asked what kind of music would you play or sing if you could in Catholic church today? My son then stated "something to get people up" but because of the age of most church people this might be a little too lively so I guess maybe it is understandable why Catholic church music is soft.
