Easter Triduum / The Servant of God who is the I AM
Good Friday
“Behold, your king!” They cried out , “Take him away, take him away! Crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your king?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. (Jn 19: 14 b - 16).
The words of execution to the Son of God who came to redeem us by the love of God, was now being humbled to refuse a possibility for angels to rescue him. What can we say since we are the very remnants of what sin has created?
For some this could be the end of a ministry that promised an end of eternal punishment once the guilty turned to the Messiah who came to bring us good news. Why did the teachers of the law of Moses not see what the Sacred Scriptures taught them about mercy and God’s relentless approach to send prophets with this promise?
Could they not understand their God when he really offered forgiveness from the words found in Genesis when he condemned Satan to crawl because of his evil intent to reduce man to his manner of finding sin as a desire in place of a loving God who offered man eternal happiness. (Gn 3: 14 ff).
Welcome to the Truth that our Lord Jesus Christ willingly chose to become so humble that he went to the Crucifixion reserved for criminals and paid the penalty that you and I earned through rejection, almost matching that of the scribes and Pharisees.
As he lies in the earth (technical term for his borrowed tomb) as his followers mourn, pray for solace, and wonder what his words meant when he said, “destroy this temple and in three days I will build it again.” (Jn 2: 19).
Through the Blood of Christ we will be raised, with his Passion we shall become one with Him.
