The Church’s Constant Teaching on Marriage/Family/Human Sexuality v. Smoke and Mirrors
When Saint Pope John Paul II passed away on April 2, 2005, my wife and I were attending a presentation by Christopher West.
The Holy Father had been ailing, and his passing was in no way unexpected. The reaction from those gathered for a presentation on his Theology of the Body was subdued. A great sense of loss seemed to be experienced by all.
In the "Habemus Papam" of just 17 days later, many of us felt ecstatic to learn that he would be succeeded by his closest collaborator! Yet, the humble, prayerful, shy, and scholarly Benedict XVI did not seem up for the limelight which his predecessor handled so adroitly, stepping aside for Pope Francis' installation on March 13, 2013.
When Pope Francis passed away on April 21, 2005, my wife woke me with the news. The Holy Father had been ailing, but his passing was unexpected. He was thought to be bouncing back from a near fatal illness.
For the seventh time in my life,, we are in a time of Apostolica Sedes Vacans. Let us pray for our recent holy fathers. RIP.
