Our World is rapidly changing
Eileen Renders
It is often said that wisdom comes with age, and I agree because it is only through reflection, comparison, and life experiences that we can establish a fundamental understanding of what has worked in a democratic society, and what type of establishment contradicts our fundamental rights.
As a society with a history of fighting for our rights, our common sense tells us we must continue to work toward a government that will uphold these beliefs and protect each individual who inhabits our country.
Our country, the US, has never experienced such turmoil as it does today. Party against Party, anger and violence over the government and its inconsistency with our Constitution, inflation, and more.
The anger, I believe, stems from being lied to by politicians who seem not to understand the needs of their people, whom they were entrusted to protect. The violence might come from the collapse of a family’s ability to receive the food and medicine necessary to look forward to a life without hope. Rioters who are released from prison, and others in jail deported.
A country with stability where the Stock Market fails rapidly in a brief period, thousands of employees are fired from their jobs without cause, and needed agencies such as USAID and Social Security are unable to operate efficiently when a third of their employees are dismissed.
Often, those who possess power and wealth seem to dismiss the poor, elderly, and disabled as though they are insignificant. Perhaps that is why God has said, “I tell you truly, it is more difficult for a rich man to enter through the gates of heaven than it is for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle.” Matthew 19:24.
Sadly, just some of the rich and powerful feel invincible, and therefore, do not pick up a bible.
We all need to remain on guard and work toward our salvation. While our parents may praise our achievements and accomplishments, God will judge us differently. Will we tip the scales on the side of goodness, and kindness with empathy and love when we are judged, or will our empty values and morals leave us poor in God’s eyes?
