Novena for the Conclave and Other Prayers for the Sacred Conclave and for the Soul of Pope Francis

In this article I have included five prayers for us to pray in preparation for the upcoming conclave; two of them are novenas and one includes a prayer for the soul of Pope Francis. Choose one to pray each day or pray all five. 

Novena for the Conclave, Day 1

Intention: For the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the Cardinal-Electors and enkindle in them the fire of Your love. Fill them with your Seven Gifts—Wisdom, Counsel, Understanding, Knowledge, Fortitude, Piety, and Fear of the Lord—so that they may select a pope who will lead the Church in Your ways of holiness, fidelity, and truth.

Conclave Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we pray in union with the whole Church for the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Cardinals. May the Princes of the Church listen attentively to Your Spirit during the conclave.

Almighty God, we pray that the conclave brings us a Pope who pleases You by guiding Your Church to grow in faithfulness to You. We pray together with the intercession of our Mother Mary and all the Saints. Please Lord, protect and guide your Church during this time of transition. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE SOUL OF POPE FRANCIS AND THE SACRED CONCLAVE:

O Eternal Father, Lord of Mercy and Guardian of the Church, You have called home Your servant, Pope Francis, the 266th successor of Peter. In Your infinite compassion, receive his soul into the glory prepared for Your faithful servants. Pardon his human frailty, magnify his virtues, and grant that he may now rest in the peace of Christ whom he proclaimed with courage, tears, and tenderness. May the angels lead him into paradise, and may he gaze forever upon the Face of Divine Love.

As the See of Peter stands empty, we turn to You with reverence and deep trust. Lord, You are not the God of confusion, but of order and truth. Send forth Your Holy Spirit upon the College of Cardinals, gathered now in solemn conclave. Inflame their hearts with a holy fear of You, and silence every voice that is not Yours. Choose for Your people a holy shepherd—Faithful to the Deposit of Faith, bold in charity, humble in authority, and radiant in holiness. A man of silence and fire, rooted in prayer, whose life is hidden in Yours.
Let him be a true son of Mary, an echo of Christ, and a watchman unafraid of the night. Jesus, Divine Bridegroom of the Church, You prayed that Peter’s faith may not fail. We cling to that promise.

In this time of mourning, purify Your Church; in this time of waiting, strengthen her soul. Mary, Mother of the Church and Star of the New Evangelization, wrap your mantle around the Cardinals as you once did around the disciples in the Upper Room. Intercede for them—obtain for them docility, discernment, and daring.

We ask all this through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You, Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,God forever and ever.
