A lesson in victim blaming
Let me say up front, that there are many ecumenical minded Protestants that think of Catholics as “just another denomination”. While I disagree with them that it is, this is not addressed primarily to them.
Before we get started, make sure you read my previous article, Fr Jason Charron is RIGHT about Ukraine (RUSSIA PERSECUTES CATHOLICS! FRIENDLY REMINDER)!, check out my Latest on Locals, Coffee and Christianity: Episode 81: Putting on Christ, and going here would really help me out, Help with medical bills
This is addressed, primarily to those who seem to conflate the word “Protestant” with the word “Christian”. And, I have to point out, that the people who do this, seem to belong to a very small subset of Protestants.
It's always interesting to me, how some Protestants will attack Catholics for their use of icons and crucifixes, yet, won't attack Lutherans for some of the same views.Luther on Crucifixes, Images, & Sign of the Cross, Icons, not idols)
Same goes for views of the Eucharist (Lutherans don't have quite the same view as Catholics, but it is more similar than other Protestants, (Eucharistic Real Presence: Luther’s Magnificent Defense)
Yet, I don't see fundamentalist Protestants bashing Lutherans for their alleged “idolatry”.
The WORST criticism I have seen for Catholic views in the Eucharist, come from the late Jack C. Chick. The ‘Death Cookie’ and Other Eucharistic Whoppers
Chick was a fundamentalist Baptist who hired the proven liar, Alberto Rivera, who lied about being a Jesuit priest who was ordained in secret in his native Spain, Meet Jack Chick.
Always the Jesuits. Man, there need to be more conspiracies about the Franciscans!
What I've always been baffled by, though, is the assumption that Catholics are obsessed with Mary. To me, it seems as though fundamentalist Protestants are more obsessed with Mary than Catholics are.
Even to the point of denying that she's the Mother of God (Theotokos, “God bearer”). That would be the heresy of Nestorianism., No, Jesus did not drop a diss track on his mom, Mary is more important than you think.
If you want to read more about the Eucharist, a good place to start is the Bible, you can read Paul's words on it, here; Paul's Eucharistic theology, and Jesus's words on it, here; The sacrificial language of the Lord's Supper
It's so bad, that I've even seen some Protestants claim that the word “Eucharist” isn't in the Bible. Oh, except it is, eucharistesas.
Catholics DO have a biblical defense of their faith. So, when I see a fundamentalist Protestant that denies Catholic beliefs are “Biblical”. I have to question why they deny that baptism is saving, or why a minority of Protestants think infants shouldn't be baptized.Something the Bible doesn't teach
Baptism on the brain
An overlooked passage on baptismal regeneration and infant baptism
To those Protestants who may disagree on how I interpret the Bible, but still consider me their fellow Christian, thank you! I hope to see you in heaven!
