God Never Promised Us a Rose Garden
“Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. For the Lord Most High is awesome, the great King over all the earth....God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the Lord amid the sounding of the trumpets. Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth...” Psalm: 47
It seems we do not have a problem exercising our vocal cords when we are cheering for our favorite football team. However, when it comes to shouting and praising God with shouts of joy—suddenly our voices become very, very tiny transformed into almost a whisper, mumble sort of sound.
I am not sure why that is; but I decided I want to be more vocal about praising God in the presence of others. When something good happens no matter how small, I am going to say out loud, praise Jesus or thank you Jesus. If I begin doing this, it will become a spontaneous response and perhaps in a small way I will be living out the scripture verse that encourages us to pray without ceasing. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Thessalonian 5: 16-18
I was not blessed with a great singing voice; however, I am going to sing anyway because I want to shout for joy to the Lord. Someone said that even if we can't carry a tune very well, the angels sing with us transforming our voices into a beautiful sound unto to the Lord. I am sure I have a choir of angels helping me sing in tune. However, sing I will with the choir of angels making a joyful sound unto the Lord.
Reflection:
Lord I am asking you to give me courage to praise and sing to you in the midst of your people. Amen! Alleluia! Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ!
