To the Ends of the Earth: Character – Week 4, Day 5 - We Look Forward to a Kingdom of Light and Love
The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers assail me,
to devour my flesh,
my adversaries and foes,
they shall stumble and fall.
Though a host encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
yet I will be confident.
Psalms 27:1–3
What happens when God shines his light on his children? Fear fades, enemies flee, and our flesh is freed. God deeply desires to give us the comfort that transforms our lives and makes us whole.
The strength that is ours in Christ helps us to overcome our sufferings and, in turn, share that same comfort with others. We have been given an eternal inheritance, and now we shine as light and stand strong in the midst of our enemies. Every soul we comfort with the grace that has been given to us adds to the glory of the Church. We are confident, comforted pillars of strength to others, part of God’s fortress of faith because the Son of God has brought his light to our lives.
Questions for reflection
How has God comforted you in the face of fear of enemies, obstacles, and failures?
How are you leaving a legacy of love by the way you bring the light of Christ to bear upon the world?
What opportunities do you have to provide comfort to others, just as you have received comfort from God?
Praying with Scripture
For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. (2 Cor 1:5)
