New Christmas Hymns - Why the Lowly Stable, Lord?
Keep your heart with all vigilance;
for from it flow the springs of life.
Put away from you crooked speech,
and put devious talk far from you.
Let your eyes look directly forward,
and your gaze be straight before you.
Take heed to the path of your feet,
then all your ways will be sure.
Do not swerve to the right or to the left;
turn your foot away from evil.
Proverbs 4:23–27
It is frightening to consider just how quickly our lives can spiral out of control when we stray from the path God has laid out for us. Scripture calls us to walk the way of integrity so that we may remain steadfast and safe in all we do. We must hold on to God’s teachings, locking them safely in our hearts, keeping them ever ready on our lips, and never letting them out of our sight. A life of truth, grounded on the word of God, guards our hearts, gives us health, and guides our steps as we strive to leave our imprint upon the world. When we stray from the narrow path, we stumble and fall.
Catholic men need to be men of integrity above all other concerns. God’s truth must be so embedded in our hearts that our every word breathes life, and our every action builds up. We must be models of righteousness, reliable witnesses to the reality of the Gospel and the soundness of the Body of Christ. Only then can we be faithful, sacrificial servants who rest secure in God’s kingdom and present our lives as living legacies of the goodness of Christ.
