Defining and Explaining the Fullness of Love
The fullness of love is existing in an unconditional state of acceptance and obedience in truth to another being.
To exist means being alive (Merriam-Webster.com). A person who is existing is performing an action that is true.
To be in an unconditional state of acceptance and obedience in truth to another being means an interaction between two beings is taking place in reality.
To be in an unconditional state of acceptance and obedience in truth to another being means that a being is relating to another being in truth in a way that will not vary regardless of the situation.
And since it is only possible to possess the fullness of love for a human person by relation to God, it is necessary to explore the human person being united to God.
Unity to God
When a human person is able to exist in relation to God in reality and in a way that will not vary regardless of the situation, a human person is able to be united to God.
It is through this unity to God that a person possesses eternal life and anything that is good.
Unity to God is a process. Life for the human person is a journey. God created us to be with him. God created us in his image and destined us to be in his likeness. The human person must make the journey home to be united to God.
Being united to God in the fullness of love is perfection for the human person. When the human person is able to love fully, he or she is existing in an unconditional state of acceptance and obedience in truth to God.
To love fully, the person must decide to cooperate with God. This cooperation involves the will and intellect. The will must freely choose good and the intellect must exist in truth.
Considering a Scripture Passage
Exploring the following scripture passage will reveal the concept of the fullness of love: “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another” (Jn 13:34).
The new commandment to “love one another” applies to the friends of Jesus. A friend is a person with whom you agree and share a mutual bond in truth in a certain way. A friend of Jesus is person who follows the new commandment—a believer.
Jesus gave this commandment after Judas left and when it became night.
Jesus shows us how to fully love our friends. It is a deeper friendship than the friendship of the world.
In regard to this special friendship, Jesus commands you to lay down your life for each other (Jn 15: 13). This laying down of your life is the fullness of love because it allows others to use their free will to accept the gift of life you possess and share a mutual bond in truth.
When you love like Jesus you are loving all of humanity and being one with Jesus.
CONCLUSION
Jesus is the fullness of love. Jesus is existing in an unconditional state of acceptance and obedience in truth to God—to God the Father, to God the Spirit, and to his self as God the Son.
If you want to be united to God and inherit eternal life, you must enter into the fullness of love. Jesus is “the way and the truth and the life” (Jn 14:6). As Jesus said: “No one comes to the Father except through me” (Jn 14:6).
The fullness of love is a concept that will never vary from situation to situation—but its application to a situation can vary. An application of the fullness of love to a specific situation is when you are called in friendship as a Catholic to love another Catholic as Jesus loves you.
To possess the fullness of love you must be existing in an unconditional state of acceptance and obedience in truth to Jesus regardless of the situation.
The fullness of love is always the answer. It is in love that God helps you to have a better life. And it is in love that you can help your Catholic brothers and sisters have a better life.
The fullness of love is how “all will know” that you are a disciple of Jesus (Jn 13:35).
