"The New Pope Supports Illegal Immigration" — A Dangerous Lie
There’s a new lie making the rounds:
“The new Pope supports illegal immigration.”
This is not just a misunderstanding — it’s the devil’s spin, designed to confuse the faithful and smear the Church.
Here’s the truth, for those willing to hear it:
Mercy and Law Are Not Enemies
The Catholic Church has always defended two sacred realities at once:
The dignity of every human person,
And the rightful authority of nations to secure and protect their borders.
These are not contradictory.
They are two sides of the same coin:
Justice, rooted in love.
What the New Pope Actually Teaches
Pope Leo XIV, like his predecessors, upholds:
Every human being, including the undocumented, is made in the image of God and must be treated with dignity and compassion.
Every nation has the moral right and duty to enforce just laws, protect its borders, and ensure the safety of its citizens.
Compassion must never become an excuse for chaos, lawlessness, or collapse.
Flooding a nation’s borders, overwhelming lawful order, and encouraging exploitation is not Catholic teaching.
It is, in fact, the opposite of love.
True Catholic Teaching on Immigration
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:
"The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of security and the means of livelihood." (CCC 2241)
But it also teaches:
"Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions..." (CCC 2241)
In short:
Mercy welcomes.
Justice governs.
Order protects both.
To demand open borders without lawful control is not Catholic.
It is political manipulation — weaponizing mercy to destroy order.
Why This Lie Matters
When the faithful are misled about Church teaching, it:
Weakens the Church’s credibility,
Confuses Catholics and non-Catholics alike,
Endangers both souls and societies.
We must speak boldly, correct error, and proclaim the full truth — not just the parts that fit a political agenda.
The Church of Christ does not belong to the political left or the political right.
She belongs to Christ alone.
Final Word
If you love the immigrant — and you should — you must also love the truth.
The path to true compassion runs alongside the path to true justice.
Pray for the Holy Father.
Pray for wisdom.
And never be afraid to defend the truth — with both mercy and clarity.
