According to the Compass, the official newspaper of the Diocese of Green Bay. the only approved Marian apparition site in the United States, Our Lady of Good Help located in Champion, Wisconsin was designated by the USCCB as a National Shrine on the Feast of the Assumption, August 15, 2016. On Dec. 8, 2010, Bishop David Ricken had formally approved of the 1859 apparition of Our Lady of Good Help to Adele Brise.
On October 8,1871, The Peshtigo Fire destroyed everything in the surrounding area except the convent, and the Saint Mary’s Boarding Academy's school, chapel and five acres of land consecrated to the Virgin Mary. Catholic365.com recently published an article by Larry Peters describing this event.

As a group of Satanists in Oklahoma City were celebrating a black mass and desecrating a statue of the Virgin Mary, it is even more meaningful that Our Lady's only approved apparition site in the U.S. was being elevated to the status of a National Shrine on the same day.
