Thoughts On The Holy Rosary And The Crown Of Thorns
Once God gives us the gift of Faith we never lose it completely.
Peter steps out of the boat to get to Jesus. By Faith, Peter can walk on water, but Peter starts to doubt (to lose Faith) and sinks. Jesus reaches out to Peter. Peter takes the hand of Jesus. Jesus rescues Peter.* Peter’s Faith is renewed.
When we were baptized we received the gift of Faith. As children it’s easy for us to love and trust Jesus because our souls are pure and simple. As we grow older too many things crowd our heart and mind. Our Faith is forgotten. We say, “I no longer believe those things I was taught as a child.” I’ve even heard people say, “My life is better now that I quit believing all that stuff.” We deny the Faith we once had but that same Faith is still with us and in us.
Bits of memory of when we loved and trusted Jesus come back to us now and then, quietly, softly, gentle stirring our heart. We try to deny what is happening by ignoring these feelings but these memories are Jesus’ way of reaching out to us to save us from drowning. Jesus desires to be with us. Jesus reaches out his hand to save us as he did for Peter. Jesus never gives up on us. Then finally one day we grasp the hand of Jesus and Jesus pulls us to back to himself. United again with Jesus, the glory of God comes flooding back into our soul.
Once in the confessional, I don’t remember what I was confessing, Father Akirewe from Ghana told me, “Jesus is trying to get closer to you.” I said, "Oh Father, I want to be closer to Jesus.” I started to cry. At that very moment I accepted the hand Jesus was holding out to me. Jesus strengthened my Faith. I was filled with Grace that only Our Lord through the Holy Spirit can give me.
Thank you Jesus for not giving up on me!
