To the Ends of the Earth: Character – Week 6, Day 5 - The Seed and the Plant Represent the Fullness of Salvation
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14–16
As we learn to put our trust in Jesus, we need to let our light shine before the whole world. Worry and anxiety are all around us, and many people stumble in darkness, far from hope. Those of us who have the light of Christ cannot hide our light for fear of being ridiculed or ostracized. We have a duty to share the radiance of Christ so that the lost can see the path to heaven and be saved.
Our every word and deed should reflect what Jesus has done for us. As we lay our worries at the Lord’s feet, we must put aside doubt, fear, complaints, and selfishness so that we stand out as blameless men in this crooked generation. This is truly what leaving a legacy is all about. When people look at our lives, the truth, passion, and joy shine so brightly that they are bathed in its radiance and moved to seek the greater light.
Questions for reflection
Have you ever kept your light hidden because you feared what people might think or say? What was the result?
How does trusting God allow your light to shine within the Church and the world?
What do you think others see when they observe how you live your life as a Catholic man?
Praying with Scripture
For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true). (Eph 5:8–9)
