Getting Older
How appropriate that the Holy Trinity falls on Father's Day! Greatest of all Fathers. The first Father. The example of what a father is and should be. Happy Father's Day My Lord. Fathers everywhere celebrate this day with good intentions and gifts from their children. Proof that they are doing a good job directing, guiding and following in the footsteps that God, "our father" has taught them. We were first loved and nurtured by our great God and so, to follow the manuscript He Himself has given, is only right.
The role of a father is to love, protect and sanctify the family, with willingness to always obey and lead his children to God. To love them, which they helped create. To be instruments of guidance in the past to Heaven for his children. To have patience and strength when dealing with that child that rebels. To educate the precious treasures he has been given. To sanctify the household with love, by showing them that it is in giving that they receive.
God, the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit does just that. They provide. They sanctify. They protect. They lead. We are all blessed to have a Triune that first loved us and continues to love us, through our earthly fathers, no matter our imperfections.
We are never without a father. Even though our earthly fathers have died. Even when we have been abandoned by our earthly fathers. Even when the presence of our earthly fathers has been distasteful. Many scenarios encircle a father. But no matter what situation we lie in, God our Father is always there. Always ready to embrace us when we feel low. Always ready to show us His Mercy and then redirect us to Him in Heaven.
Having a good father makes us realize how even greater a Father we have in Heaven.
My earthly father was a good father. He worked hard to provide for my mother and us five children. He was always ready and willing to guide us and support us, as long as it followed the rules of God. He showed us what security meant and the power of His presence in love. Disciplined us if necessary and surely loved us always. He left this world too soon, but God had other plans for him. What is most important, is, he left a never-ending impression in the hearts and minds of all of us. One that we can smile on whenever we are low or confused.
Praise be the Blessed Holy Trinity! Praise be God the Father, Jesus His Son, and the Beloved Holy Spirit. One day, God willing, we will be reunited with our earthly fathers and rejoice in the union of them standing beside our Heavenly Father, both, with open arms and smiles on their faces.
Happy Father's Day!
