Becoming Christ-Like
The Gift from God: Eternal Life; which begins as Love
There is of course, no question that life, presently or eternal, is the one gift that must be adhered to since each of us is in that state of creation. It isn’t a need to discern what this attribute that identifies us that means so much; it is what maintains this mysterious entity that makes our search of understanding about God’s reason to create one like you or me.
Among the principle aspects of our creation is the very essence of Love. It always was the prime significance of the Holy Trinity to capture the ability of this attribute in man’s nature to identify himself as a loving creature in acceptance of his being.
Take the signs of how man has twisted this attribute of Love and has become a figure of selfishness towards other people and especially God as well. How, we may ask, did this great gift of our Creator become so misunderstood and caused man to seek his own future and hedonistic ideals.
We often use specific holidays to tell women that love is at the premise of our affections to her; Mother’s day, Valentines day, anniversaries, and make-up for an argument. These have always been a bended-knee approach to keeping an admiration for her alive and filled with tender meaning. The disappointing result is the absence of this wonderful affectionate manner of touching others in a way that shows no anger or envy, and opens a door to saying; “ I care about you.” It doesn't mean one needs to be affectionate towards someone who isn’t a personal connection, but it does represent a human response to a sister or brother in the spiritual sense.
God’s statement of “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” (Gn 1: 26) wasn’t verbally completed with, “I love you.” But using those words is not a mandated verse. Giving flowers or candy to a woman says that without speaking. Telling a stranger you’re sorry for a bad word, or for their loss of someone says the same. However, the intention to avoid the words or some positive manner of showing compassion is not love in its very essence. We need a truly human response towards someone who might be looking for a kind approach to their human need for solace.
Hatred, anti-semitism, decision to hurt someone different than yourself, and joining groups to kill another for spiritual, political, and reasons that are personal has every facet of evil as its intent. These destroy the premise of finding the virtue of love towards another human; that is evil. God’s creation of mankind is Love in its greatest possible gift to mortal man. He demands the same from us who were created out of love.
