JESUS WANTS TO HEAL US OF OUR MISERIES
WE ARE IN (inside) GOD, AS HE IS IN US (literally).
1. It makes perfect sense that God revealed to us the mystery of His Being, the Blessed Trinity-- God's inner life, an interior exchange of love. Theologians explain the Mystery of the Blessed Trinity as God knowing and loving Himself. God the FATHER's perfect knowledge of Himself is God the SON; God's perfect love for Himself is the HOLY SPIRIT; one God in three Persons. Still we will not be able to fully understand this greatest of all mysteries. Yet God revealed to us His interior life because He is inviting us to join His inner community.
2. How so? Jesus, the eternal Son of God, unites Himself to us through His Holy Spirit (dwelling) in us, so that we become adopted children of the Father.
3. This is nothing like human adoption where the adopting parents just sign a document, but would not be able to transmit their genes to their adopted child. In our divine filial adoption we do get the GENES (so to speak) of God, the Holy Spirit in our souls, God Himself.
4. There it is, we enter into the very life of the Blessed Trinity, the eternal exchange of Love. We are IN (inside) God, as He is in us through His Holy Spirit dwelling in our souls, LITERALLY. We have access to the Father through the Son in the Holy Spirit. We participate in the very life of the Blessed Trinity (cf. Jn. 14:15-17). As the Catechism puts it: "The ultimate end of the whole divine economy is the entry of God's creatures into the perfect unity of the Blessed Trinity."(CCC #260, cf. Jn 17: 21-23)
5. How awesome is this reality! We must be so very special that God deigned to reveal to us and invite us into His very inner life. Think and meditate on this sublime truth and you ought never again to be insecure and unhappy, because now your life has direction and meaning( cf. Ps.16:8-9). Never think little of yourself for you are now in communion with the Blessed Trinity, participating/sharing in the very life of the godhead.
6. Never trivialize or reduce this reality to a mere catechetical truth. Rejoice and savor it and you will do godly things, for we are gods in Jesus who is God. As the Catechism puts it, the Blessed Trinity is the central mystery of our FAITH and LIFE.
7. Dwell in this reality. Have a lively sense of it, and you will not sin, rather you will love as God loves because God is love. Also, more and more your tastes will be elevated. The ephemeral things of this world will little by little cease to attract you. Rather you will see them for the baubles that they are. (St. Paul reminds us: ".... seek the things that are above, Col. 3:1-2)
8. Indeed we are meant for higher things. We are meant to be gods in God through God in us. Already as creatures God is in us as our Creator. ("For in Him we live and move and have our being." Acts 17:28). But in a more special and even literal way God is in us as our Savior and Friend, when we are in the state of grace (indwelling of the Holy Spirit).
9. We must, however, make a free decision to accept God's invitation into His inner life by repenting of our sins and committing ourselves to living with Jesus and living like Him. This is our way of cooperating with God's grace, His free gift of divinizing us. We then enter into an intimate relationship with God the Father as His sons/daughters in Jesus, His only Son, through the Holy Spirit (Trinitarian life/spirituality: we go TO THE FATHER, THROUGH THE SON, IN THE HOLY SPIRIT).
10. Make a choice then: to be WALKING GODS (when in the state of grace) OR WALKING DEAD (when in the state of sin); for outside God we are spiritually dead.
11. Indeed, Christianity is not only a historical religion wherein God intervened in the history of man to save him, but also a mystical religion wherein we can touch God and experience his loving presence.
